A typical lunch spread, which after 72 miles of riding was welcomed!
Devil’s Tower!
These are always my favorite road signs!

Gillette to Spearfish did not disappoint… 108 miles 4600 feet putting us in our sixth state South Dakota! The highlight was multiple views of Devil’s Tower - especially of interest for me as my dad actually climbed it in the 50s. It was also a central character in Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
We are coming up on our second full rest day in Rapid City SD day after tomorrow. Today was day 19 on the trip and we are approaching the midway point. So far this trip has been rich and transformative experience in multiple domains beyond expectations: The experience and beauty of America up close and personal for every mile, the people we are riding with and meeting along the way, the physical challenge of it, and the nutrition, preparation, recovery cycle for 47 days straight! As my friend Carlos said: I won’t be the same Doug that left Portland OR when I get to Portland ME!
Cheers

Yes, Doug, you won’t be the same and for one there will be less of you!😊 Sal looked up testicle festival merch and there’s a t-shirt that says “come have a ball”!🤪 Keep the wheels a rolling, getting there! ❤️

Another great daily summary! I look forward to this every am. Awesome pics of Devils Tower! Got to hike around there a few years ago and was very cool seeing the climbers way up there. I didn’t know your dad climbed it! So crazy cool. Enjoy day 20! I am so enjoying the ride along! 🙌🏼🥰

Great photos Doug! I am in awe of your determination and perseverance! You are getting a very unique view of America. Your 7,000 foot elevation gain to Bighorn Pass is breathtaking. No pun intended. Stay strong and keep up the photos and posts.

Go Doug go. The picture are amazing and I am sure they don’t do it justice.
