Today we passed the halfway point across the United States!

This ride down to Mitchell South Dakota included crossing the Missouri river. 10 days ago we are at its headwaters in Three Forks, Wyoming.

The day started out with heavy dead on headwinds (15-25 mph) that shifted more to crosswinds midway through, which made progress easier. A lot of effort today on good paceline discipline shifting to echelon formation, like birds do to shield from the crosswinds. It turned out to be a beautiful day and we got in early with plenty of time to recover and get organized.

In Mitchell, we saw the famous corn Palace, which is essentially a basketball arena and concert hall whose exterior is covered with artwork formed by, guess what, Corn!🤣

I’ve had some questions on nutrition so I included a video describing the daily uptake.

Cheers

Gordon

Never in my life would I have guessed that there was a Corn Palace, let alone see it first hand through you! Question: What has been the most unexpected, eye-opening discovery of the trip so far for you personally?

Sandi

I have no doubt there is major concentration. Wind is tough. Enjoy the journey! Go Doug go!!

Jim

Hope you had dinner at the cattleman’s club! if not you need to stay another day!

Kelly Young

Wow, I loved your nutrition video… I would be interested to know how many calories you eat in a day and how many calories your Garman says you expand every day. Also, how many grams of protein are you eating daily? Are you noticing your legs or butt increasing in size?

Brad Miller

Doug - you’re doing awesome!! Epic ride/epic adventure. When I do long rides, sit bones, back, and wrists can get sore. Any issues for you? Love your positive attitude each and every day. Rolling through my home state of MN soon!!

Look forward to this every evening! I stand in amazement each day! Talked to Al this morning and he is fallowing your trip daily as well!! Said he talked to you at Crazy Horse!! The best and he’s thrilled ! It would seem you’d maybe be getting ‘tired’ by now but everyday you seem better and stronger! All of your well planned out nutrition along with all your training, your perserverence , strength and mind set are all working together. You got this!! Thanks for sharing this every single day.
